emusic part deux, part deux
here's what finished off august's emusic 65:
"jabberstroker" and "heavy metal country" from sunfish holy breakfast by guided by voices: GBV was one of my "early-adopter" indie bands back in the early 90's; the tour for "alien lanes" at graffiti was my first bonafide indie rock show, and as such, i've dropped in on most of the subsequent releases. honestly, none of them held us much for me as the alien lanes-under the bushes albums, but sunfish holy breakfast had a couple of gems, including these two.
"she's evil" by guv'ner: this is one more piece of the amy mariaskin mix tape puzzle. she gave me this really awesome mix sophomore year of high school, and i've been trying to get it all on mp3 ever since.
"superball" by helium: everyone remembers their first 7". this was actually my second, bought mere moments after the pacific trim ep by pavement. i bought it off manny theiner at a grifters show at luciano's. that reminds me; all my old concert haunts are gone now. graffiti and luciano's bit the dust early in my college years, and i hear nothing has really taken their place. shame.
"the you i created" by of montreal: it's great when kevin lets up and lets his supporters get their stuff out. this is a precious little ditty house on the horse and elephant eatery collection.
"coolin' by sound" by pavement: i bought the slanted and enchanted reissue, but held back on the crooked rain one. mostly because i already had most of it. this was one of the few tracks i've never had in any way, so it's a nice fit.
tullycraft: disenchanted hearts unite: tullycraft is basically the dying essence of twee, and i've got a real soft spot for them. ever since "pop songs yr new boyfriend's too stupid to know about". i haven't listened to this yet, but i was getting bored of looking for singles, so i thought i'd give it a shot. i think it came out to $2.50, anyway.
the unicorns: the unicorns: 2014: the unicorns had it all. then the broke up. it was basically a two and half album deal. this is their last gasp. but what a run while it lasted.
